‘Cook Yourself Thin’ star, Harry Eastwood, will be sweetening up the 12th annual National Honey Week with her infectious personality and enthusiasm for natural, raw ingredients.

Now entering its twelfth year, National Honey Week is one of the UK’s tastiest celebrations, and will run from 3 to 9 May 2010. Harry, who believes that food should make you happy, and specialises in cooking with ingredients that are natural, vibrant and fun, will be encouraging the nation to break their usual habits and make a small change to their daily routine by replacing sugar with honey in their tea and breakfast. She will also be supporting National Honey Week by putting her hand to some delicious breakfast recipes, which will demonstrate perfectly, the versatility and enjoyment of using honey in our everyday lives.

This year, for the first time, The Honey Association will be creating a bespoke event kit and will be encouraging families to spread the word about the fantastic qualities of honey with their very own honey themed events. Packed full of handy hints and tips, easy and nutritious recipes, a template poster and decorations, the free, downloadable toolkit has everything you need to get your own National Honey Week event started.

So, whether you want to create a honey themed supper for your family or organise a bake sale for your local community, log onto www.honeyassociation.com to download your toolkit and start planning your event, however big or small. (This will be available from April onwards)*

So why not start making that change today? Check out how easy it is to get cooking with honey:

  • Remember honey is much sweeter than table sugar! Substitute your daily teaspoon of sugar for a drizzle of honey in your cup of tea in the morning.
  • Take a tip from grandma and run a spoon under a hot tap for stress-free honey drizzling.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment with set honey. Thick honey is delicious combined with cinnamon and poured over natural yoghurt and fresh fruit for breakfast. Set honey can be softened simply by standing it in warm water for an hour or so.
  • Remember, slightly reduce the temperature of your oven when cooking with honey, it crisps and browns much faster than sugar.

Notes to Editors
* The National Honey Week Toolkit will be available to consumers from the beginning of April 2010.
